Cartier Tank Watches

Inspired by the war machines of the World War I, the first prototype of the Cartier Tank collection was designed and given to General John Pershing in 1917 but wasn't officially introduced to the market until 1919. Louis Cartier applied the aesthetics of tanks in the shapes and proportions of this family of watches, including the smooth integration of the straps into the vertical branchards. The 36 models in the Tank family come in five lines: Anglaise, Louis Cartier, Americaine, Francaise, and Solo. All models feature bold Roman numerals on their dials, sword-shaped blued steel hands, and a chemin de fer chapter ring. Tank Anglaise features a winding mechanism built into the case while the others are adorned with a sapphire cabochon surmounted crown.
