Rose gold is a gold and copper alloy. The more copper used in the mix (up to 25% of the total alloy), the redder the tint becomes. This mixture was so common in 19th century Russia that it was often called 'Russian gold' in the past. The 21st century has seen a resurgence in popularity of this mixture in the United States and around the world. Depending on the copper content and the whims of the manufacturer, rose gold can also go by red gold or pink gold.
